Fashion Trends 2010: Will They or Wont They?

You might be surprised by some of the trends that are forecasted for Spring 2010… but who would have thought that past trends like jumpsuits, fingerless biker gloves or leg warmers would catch on?

Which of these trends will be hot in 2010 and which will fizzle out?

    HEADWEAR

Madonna spearheaded this trend in 2009 with the Louis Vuitton bunny ears she wore to the Met Costume Gala. Expect to see many knockoffs this spring, along with headwear adorned with horns and mouse ears.

    FACEWEAR

2009 was the year of Lady Gaga and she shows no sign of stopping in 2010. Did she spark a trend with face coverings? No one can forget last year’s face-covering lace or the bird’s nest at the VMAs. These “face masks” are already popping up on the runway and at fashion houses for next season.

    FUTURISTIC FASHION

The futuristic trend was kicked off in 2009, namely by Rihanna’s straight from the runway looks and Beyonce’s Balmain military jacket. You can expect this trend to go full throttle in 2010. Think shiny materials, accentuated shoulders and provocative high dress splits.

    LINGERIE…AGAIN?

Wearing lingerie outside the bedroom has been in and out of style since Madonna’s Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra in the early 1990s. Daring celebrities like Rihanna and Lady Gaga have brought lingerie as daywear into the mainstream again with luxury full-body corsets, Marc Jacobs’ bras as outerwear, slips and Hussein Chalayan’s garter belts with knee high boots.

BLEACHED EYEBROWS & PEROXIDE BLONDE HAIR

One year, bushy eyebrows are a hot trend and then the next year, thin is in. In 2010, bleached eyebrows are big on the runway from designers like Jonathan Saunders and in ad campaigns for Givenchy. You can expect to see white blonde hair with matching eyebrows – on and off the runway.

    HOLIDAY STYLE

Holiday party season is in full force – and the options for outfits are endless. The holidays are the perfect time of year to show your sense of style and take fashion risks. Think sequins, sparkles and spice.

    SEQUINS: FRIEND, NOT FOE

Sequins are the perfect way to take your holiday style to the next level. Go all out with a sequined dress or if you aren’t feeling quite that bold, add a sequined beret or scarf to your favorite standby threads.

TIGHTS: THESE AREN’T YOUR MOM’S NYLONS

With so many options of textures, colors and patterns, tights are the perfect way to express your style and keep your gams warm during the cold winter months. Textured tights in a bold color can dress up your outfit and add a bit of spice.

    METALLICS: WINTER’S NEUTRAL COLORS

Metallics match with practically any outfit and add a spark of glam to the dreary winter months. Top your outfit with a pair of metallic pumps or clutch. Be careful not to go overboard with too many bedazzlements!

    LBD + ACCESSORIES = PERFECTION

You don’t have to break the bank to have great holiday style. Take your standby LBD and update it with bold accessories. Try an oversized cocktail ring, a sparkly bib necklace or a headband with a big bow or bauble for the perfect holiday outfit.

LUXTIP: Be bold. Anything goes during the holidays!

The last couple of years have been so serious, I think everyone wants to have more fun again, especially with their fashion. I'm envisioning Marc Jacobs' whimsy alongside Gaultier's strong, structured silhouettes. Madonna's "Material Girl" will fit right in!

Thank you for your question Sarah. The brands are actually alphabetized from left to right within each letter. A better way to find your favorites brands would be to type the name into the search box. On the search results page click on the "Brands" tab. You will see a list of brands matching your search inquiry. You can also click on the heart under the brand to add it to your My Sale Rack emails. You can always email me questions at contact@luxgoddess.com!

Is there any possibility that the brands list can be alphabetized? I am finding it a bit frustrating that I have to go through the entire list of each letter to find the brands I love.

White After Labor Day: Do or Don't?

    Rebecca from Wooster said:
i think it all depends on where you live and what the local weather is. places that are warm year round would be ok as long as the sun is shining and it is a beautiful day. white pants show every speck of dirt or dust near the ground, so a big no-no in rain or other inclement weather even if it is July in Arizona!
